Automatic Vehicle Location has been growing in popularity with public safety and utility companies as the technology has steadily improved while also becoming more affordable. Quite simply, these systems provide status and location of mobile units whether it be a taxi, school bus, road grader, patrol car or service truck. The status can be anything from speed, on-duty or off-duty, blade up or down, to lights and siren active – almost anything a person may wish to monitor. These systems can also provide simple messaging capability to and from the mobile. GPS location map information can be displayed on an office pc allowing a manager or supervisor to monitor fleet activity as well as display the route a mobile has followed throughout the day.
